Books

Questions: What's the best fiction book you've read lately? Also, what is your favorite novel of all times?

I am looking for a couple of good books for our book club.

Thanks!

Haven't had a chance to read much lately- but my two favorite novels of all time are "The Harvester" and "A Woman Of Substance". I could be stranded on a deserted isle and be perfectly happy if I had one of those books with me to read......and bananas to eat.

Favorite book of all time: To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

Lately: Anything by Christopher Moore. (Especially The Fool and Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Friend.)

The Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay is really good, too.

Not sure I can pick an all-time favorite but I just finished The Space Between Us and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Both would make good book club reads. Lots to discuss. I just started The Alchemist which I already love and I'm just a few pages in!

Hi! Delurking for the love of books ;-)...

Recent: The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver and The People of the Boook by Geraldine Brooks.

Of all time: I have many loves, and can't name just one, but some favorites include The Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin (recommend Winter reading), The History of Love: A Novel by Nicole Krauss, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and Everything is Illuminated both by Jonathan Safran Foer.

The Girl Who Fell From The Sky by Heidi Durrow. Picked it up solely because of a recommendation blurb from Barbara Kingsolver on the cover and it did not disappoint. Interesting structure and characters. Deals with race and family.

Recent novels: "The Geurnsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" was full of joy, just so awesome! And I'm enjoying "Testimony" by Anita Shreve. Even though I think it's a bit of a beach book, there's much to discuss.

Favorite books of all time: "Middlesex" and "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay".

I love book recommendations, so I am writing a few of these down. I definitely second Clueless But Hopeful's Kavalier and Clay. Great book!

I liked Richard Russo's Straight Guy (or Straight Man?) for something lighter. My fav all time book is For Whom The Bell Tolls. LOVE.

Last book I read was Gods in Alabama, I think. Pretty good. And I think my favorite novel of all time is maybe A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. But I don't know. It's like picking your favorite child.

Oh and I forgot how much I'm STILL haunted by "Still Alice". I wish someone else would read it so I can TALK about my FEELINGS about it. *hint hint*

My friend Amanda at http://4molnars.blogspot.com/ is a mom of two and the queen of reading recommending books. She has a book log on the side of her blog. She loves to talk books.

Wish I had one to recommend but I don't make time to read like I would love to.

I loved For Whom the Bell Tolls, A Seperate Peace, Sense and Sensibility, and Gone with the Wind.

My favorite way to find new books is going through a library "to be shelved" cart, because you know they've been read recently! Also, I often just judge books by their cover or font choice. It seems to be a system that works for me and has helped me to avoid real disaster ones!
